First frost

Last night, for the first time this year, the weatherman warned us to bring outside pets indoors for the night. Butch and Kadi let me sleep indoors with them all the time, but the weatherman was right: this gorgeous day began with frost on the ground.

I've always associated Thanksgiving with cool, crisp air. In fact, there's something about snuggling into a warm place on a cold day that never fails to inspire a spirit of thankfulness in me, regardless of the day. Add a good book and my gratitude multiplies.

Wherever you are tomorrow, I wish you safe travels, good company, good food, and love.

Happy Thanksgiving.

  5. Velvet... looks lovely there. I can't wait to have a reason to wear my coat! We finally dropped out of the 90s today, something I'm thankful for!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Velvet.

  7. Jackie, I'll be wrapped in that blanket any minute now. Enjoy your warm-weather Thanksgiving.

Sandy, I love to see the frost, too -- out the window. Do you have a holiday similar to our Thanksgiving? One where you give thanks and overeat?

Carmon, I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and hoping you get lots of phone time with Mike. I know you're thankful for all the natural beauty that surrounds you, and I'm thankful you've shared so much of it in your blog.

Tony, thanks for your "cheesy" comment; it's nice to see you here.

Creekhiker, you could have worn that coat for about an hour here today. I wore a heavy sweater all day long, but I saw a puce-haired girl in town wearing a halter top.

Thanks, everybody, for your warm holiday I'm sending good wishes right back to you, with a dollop of whipped cream on top.

  9. How beautiful! But better you than us, LOL. Although my husband, who is out the door by 6:24 a.m., has seen frost in our neighborhood. In another life, I would be an animal that hibernates - I like warm and cozy.

Wishing you also a wonderful Thanksgiving, blessed with family and friends! I know I am thankful for all my new blogger friends this year :-)

(Put your snowshoes on and "Run, Velveeta, run!")

  11. Hi Velvet, I'll be imagining you with a good book in your hands and two friendly dogs settled nearby. I imagine the blanket will have been tossed off by midday. Annie

  12. Happy Thanksgiving Velvet. I wanted to say thank you for inspiring me to write more. My little writer's group has fallen apart this year and I was missing that creative outlet more than I realized. So thank you!

I hope you find a little time to curl up with a book and Butch and Kadi this weekend. Happy Thanksgiving,

    Holly

  13. Sunflower, I've seen frost in Louisiana before you've seen it in New York? What's wrong with this picture? Quick, somebody, call Al Gore.

Patsy, the weather here has been weird, too. I've never been the kind of person who picked out her work clothes the night before, but I couldn't do it even if I wanted to. Weatherwise, every day is a surprise.

Annie, there'll be times over this long weekend that are just like your description. My daughter's here today, though, so we'll be snuggling with four dogs, and our books will be replaced with DVDs.

Creekhiker, you're a good writer. Whatever inspired you to do more of it, I'm glad you made that decision.

  14. See, my Velveeta monicker may stick for you!

  15. Tony, it just may. Most of the Velveeta I've eaten through the years has stuck to me, too.
