Ti-i-i-ime is on my side, yes it is

I'm really enjoying my new job, and one of the best things about it is getting off work thirty minutes earlier in the afternoon. That extra half hour is improving the quality of my life in a number of ways. For example, I can:

1. Be on my way home before the worst of the rush-hour traffic begins.

2. Make it to the post office before the afternoon pickup.

3. Get to the supermarket before the deli is out of all the good stuff.

4. Cook something for dinner instead of settling for whatever's fastest (because I'm not as hungry when I get home as I used to be).

5. Do a week's worth of laundry on a weeknight, freeing up a chunk of my weekend.

6. Sit outside with the dogs or cuddle them on the sofa.

7. Spend an extra half hour on the computer, reading your blogs or writing mine.

8. Blog before my favorite TV shows rather than after, which means I can get to bed at a decent hour.

9. Answer e-mails (oh, gawd, I'm sooo far behind).

10. Clean one room each evening to keep my house nice and tidy.

All of these strike me as really good ideas except the last one, which just misses being a good idea by virtue of being a blatant lie, not to mention a surefire way to ruin a perfectly good half hour.

If you suddenly gained an extra half hour each day, how would you use it?

  1. Velvet, So glad you like the new job situation.

If I had an extra half hour, I'd work in the studio, play with Mabel or goof off online.

  2. All those advantages that come with an extra 30 minutes!! Amazing. But does that mean that you have to be at work 30 minutes earlier in the morning?
I don't need an extra 30 minutes cos I decided to retire and let someone else worry about the extra 30 minutes!!

  3. I'm so happy for you! But reading this just reminded me that I've had a load of laundy in the dryer for three days! Ah, what 30 minutes would do...

  4. I'd like to say I'd do something that needs doing around here, but really I'd probably just read.

  5. How would I really use it? I'd probably just goof off (TV, Internet, etc). How should I use it? House maintenance stuff.

Now I feel lazy. Thanks. ;)

  6. Creekhiker, it's working out nicely, thanks.

Ex-Shammickite, nope, the hours are shorter. If I'd had to be at work 30 minutes earlier, I'd have probably had to quit. I am so NOT a morning person.

Duly Inspired, have you ever left laundry in the dryer so long that it seemed easier just to move it back in the washer and start all over? I've done that.

Janet and Mike, it would be easy for me to lump this extra half hour into reading, TV, and Internet time, too. I'm hoping that the fact that the time slot opened up during my transition from work to home will keep me in productive mode for those 30 extra minutes. Inertia is a powerful force in my life.

  7. I have always rushed home in the afternoon. So this year, I promised myself to sit awhile at the end of the day in my office. Eat a snack or do something rather than hurry home. thought maybe I would be more rested. Well, it is not working so I may go back to hurrying home.

Glad you get some extra time!

  8. I'm so happy for you! I've been buried out at the shop so much lately I've been dropping in on everyone during the day but not taking time to comment. So, I suppose I would leave comments on all of my favorite blogs to let those folks know how much I appreciate them. See...you got a comment and I don't even have an extra 30 minutes! Carmon

  9. I would daydream, work in the shop, or take a nap. I'm glad this "extra" 30 minutes is working for you!

  10. Love the new look Velvet. I must have been away longer than I thought, what new job? I thought you loved your old job? That's what I get for neglecting my visiting.

  11. Sister-Three, maybe you're doing it backwards. Maybe you should hurry home, THEN take a little time for yourself.

Carmon, knowing how busy you are right now, I especially appreciate your taking the time to comment. How soon do you leave for Delaware?

Maxngabbie, those are all good ideas. Daydreaming is a wonderful way to while away some time.

Kat, you're right, I did love my old job. The best part is that I have the same boss in the new job, plus nicer office space. My boss had a general law practice that covered several fields of law. Now he's confined his practice to one specific field, which means much less chaos in the course of any given day.
