My New Happy Place

The new shower curtain I ordered arrived late Tuesday. I spent Tuesday evening getting acquainted with it, trying to decide if that one reddish-colored outhouse clashes with the floor. By Wednesday I'd convinced myself that the bathroom floor looks enough like barnyard dirt that it doesn't matter what color the outhouses are, so I cleaned the bathroom vigorously, scrubbing tile, bleaching grout, cleaning the blinds, taking the valance down to wash--making sure everything in there was pristine before I hung the pretty new curtain and its brand-new liner. Yesterday, Thursday, I sent the following early-morning-check-in text to my daughters:

"Good morning! Getting ready to hang my new shower curtain, then I plan to sit on the toilet and admire it all day."

And that's pretty much what I did. I really, really like it. There's more to that shower curtain than the outhouses, the trees, and the grass. There's a birdhouse hanging in one of those trees and a nest wedged in the branches of another. There are birds in the trees and on the ground. There are tiny wildflowers and a wire fence and a trailing vine. I feel certain that if the curtain were twice as wide, there would also be a wishing well, a wheelbarrow, and at least a couple of chickens. There's so much more life in this shower curtain than in the solid white one it replaced.

So here: step inside and let me show you around my bathroom:

This is the view from the door.

Here you can see the shower curtain reflected in the mirror.

This is the view from the "royal throne."

And you might as well see this corner, too,
since it's the only one left.

It's funny how a new splash of color in a single room can brighten up a whole house.

    1. Thank you, Joy! I must admit that my bathroom is tidy because I just cleaned it. My bedroom is tidy, too, for the same reason. As for the rest of the house ... well, I'll just hang my head in shame. :)

  2. Oh that looks really really nice! Wish my bathroom was that big!!! I know it won't come as any surprise to you that I had the exact same lights until the one side shorted out and I had to replace them about 15 years ago. BTW did you know that Stephen King has a new book coming out in September? I just pre-ordered it.....sounds like a good one (Doctor Sleep) and also I'm ordering one by his son, Joe Hill ( NOS4A2: A Novel ). I've read The Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill and he's as good as his dad as far as I'm concerned.
Enjoy your new curtain. It puts a smile on your face, doesn't it?

    1. Thanks, Val. I didn't know about Stephen King's new book but will check it out. Did you know that "Under the Dome" has been made into a TV mini-series scheduled to start soon? That ought to be a good one.

    2. Great! Thanks for the info....I will be waiting for it. In reference to you reading romance lately, I generally don't get interested in romance novels but once in a while one comes along that pulls me in. Have you ever read "Forever Amber" by Kathleen Winsor? That is one of the books that I so enjoyed I have read it four times, starting when I was a teenager (with mom's permission). Since we tend to favor similar books, you may really enjoy it too.

    3. Val, I've heard of that one forever but have never read it. Thought I might have seen the movie but just now watched the trailer for it on YouTube and it doesn't ring a bell at all. I'll check it out--literally--next time I go to the library. Thanks for the suggestion.

    1. Thanks, Holly. I told Kim I'm kicking myself because I could have been enjoying it for seven years if I'd ordered it when I first saw it. Then I realized that if I'd ordered it way back then, it would be worn out by now. See how I turned that negative thought around and made myself happy? Boy, is that ever a useful skill. :)

  4. Thanks to all of you who DON'T like the shower curtain for being kind enough not to comment and say so. :)
