You were brave enough to ask for help, which set this whole chain of events in motion. I hope you and your baby bird will rest easier in your nest now.

The auctions that secured the nest ended up at $14,081.03, far surpassing the goal. It was such a joy to watch all of you squirrels, rabbits, robins and redbirds build this beautiful thing together. You were part of something special.Linda@VShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04499621332375290781noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21612081.post-1153262260236121522006-07-18T17:37:00.000-05:002006-07-18T17:37:00.000-05:00guess that is a mother goose story.guess that is a mother goose story.patsyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15698348452802053572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21612081.post-1153203677133679972006-07-18T01:21:00.000-05:002006-07-18T01:21:00.000-05:00Your empathy for the skunk only causes me to respe...Your empathy for the skunk only causes me to respect you more.MapleValleyGlasshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12574747604209454301noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21612081.post-1153190035020712722006-07-17T21:33:00.000-05:002006-07-17T21:33:00.000-05:00It's a truly lovely fable, and so apt. I just wish the other animals really would just ignore the skunk, instead of poking it with sticks to see if they can make it spray.Snowcaphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04446118731775520633noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21612081.post-1153184797954967482006-07-17T20:06:00.000-05:002006-07-17T20:06:00.000-05:00What a wonderful story Velvet, thank you for shari...What a wonderful story Velvet, thank you for sharing.
Sandyto touch a unicornhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15823979594281577987noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21612081.post-1153180820470328722006-07-17T19:00:00.000-05:002006-07-17T19:00:00.000-05:00A beautiful story and so well told. The allegory ...A beautiful story and so well told. The allegory of course, doesn't miss the mark, it's just too bad that the skunk is so occupied with it's self importance that the vile smell will smell like perfume to it. This particular skunk needs to take itself to a hospital and get some therapy as well as deodorant!nan16https://www.blogger.com/profile/16273247335538935934noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21612081.post-1153179582405529732006-07-17T18:39:00.000-05:002006-07-17T18:39:00.000-05:00Thank you so much for visiting my blog and for you...Thank you so much for visiting my blog and for your nice comments about my little fable. My regular readers must be wondering what the heck is going on!

Just FYI, I didn't write this entry in defense of my own baby bird. God knows she's been sprayed by this particular skunk so many times that it's barely worth getting out the deodorizer can anymore. I think a few others here are in that same boat.

It just struck me yesterday that a lot of people were being sprayed over the past couple of days who might be feeling the acrid sting for the first time, and I found it particularly vile that some of the spray was directed at a large group of people who had pulled together to make something wonderful happen.

Let's just say I write better when I'm inspired--positively or negatively--and last night I was highly motivated.

For the record, I do have some empathy for the skunk. I can't imagine that it's stinking up everybody else just because it's so happy with itself. I wonder if we'll ever know.

Thanks again for visiting.Linda@VShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04499621332375290781noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21612081.post-1153170274805932672006-07-17T16:04:00.000-05:002006-07-17T16:04:00.000-05:00So beautiful. When animals attack for no apparent reason, it usually means they are ill.

I am new to the world of twigs and grass and have only seen one skunk while meandering in these woods - I hope it is the only one. Still to me, it is a very sad story. Sad, because it reminds me of the evil and downright jealously that exists in "all" species. I like you, you are a really loving "mother bird".
P.S. skunk spray does dissipate eventually!maxngabbiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13573337074131005220noreply@blogger.com
